Alexander entered a team in the U19 tournament at Sahlen's,
and despite taking a team that included mostly 8th and 9th grade
players, performed quite well. Alexander finished with a 1-2
record on the tournament, but played very well in all 3 games, winning
one, and having a good chance of winning the final game as well.
Alexander's MVP for the tournament was a tie between Kim and D.
Kim played solid defense all tournament long, including being a fill-in
goalie in the first game and picking up a shutout. D picked up two
goals on the day, the only offense Alexander was able to generate, and
had solid passing all day long. Now for the recap of the games.
Mt Hamilton 3 Alexander 1 Alexander needed to pick up a win in this game to qualify for the finals. Alexander came out hot in this game and put the pressure on early. D picked up an early goal for Alexander after taking the ball on a breakaway and outrunning the goalie to bury the ball in the back of the net. Alexander tried to make the lead stand up, and did so for 10 minutes of the game. Unfortunately with approximately 15 minutes left in the game Mt Hamilton blasted a ball into the net to tie the game at 1. From there Mt Hamilton just took over and found their groove. Alexander got a couple opportunities to put the ball in the Mt Hamilton's net, but unfortunately they didn't find the back of the net. Mt Hamilton would put two goals in in the final 10 minutes to win the game 3-1. Mt Hamilton lost in the finals, but was a very solid team. 1st star in this game went to D, another great game leading the offense with strong passing and great movement around the field. Picked up an early goal to give Alexander the lead. 2nd star goes to Kim, another great game of defense, shut down her mark all game long, very solid game. 3rd star goes to Robin, did a nice job in her lone game of the day, a great presence in the middle of the field, good passing and solid defense. Great job ladies, I am proud of how well you played in a tournament were every team was made of players who were much older than we were.
Germania 2 Alexander 0 Alexander met up with a very tough team in their 2nd game of the day. Alexander kept the score tied at 0 for the first 7 minutes of the game. Just after that Germania scored two goals in the next minute of play, which would prove to be all the scoring they would need. Alexander gave a very good effort in the game, but were just outmatched by a more skilled team this time out. Germania was a very experienced team, and it was all Alexander could do to keep them out of the net for the rest of the game. Alexander finished with only one shot on net in this game. First star went to Kim, a very nice game of defense, did a great job stepping to the ball and winning some tough 50/50 challenges. 2nd star went to Molly, who did a very nice job on her mark, winning a lot of 50/50 challenges on her side of the field. 3rd star goes to Alesha, who did a very nice job of fill-in goalie stepping out to several shots to limit the number of good looks Germania got on net.
Alexander 1 South Buffalo 0 Alexander would get off to a fast start in the U19 tournament by knocking off South Buffalo 1-0 in the first game of the day. Alexander dictated play from the outset of this game, and outplayed South Buffalo all game long. Just over halfway through the game, Alexander got an indirect kick and for the first time in Alexander Indoor Soccer history they would put it in the back of the net. Linz touched it to D who sent a rocket into the top left corner of the net for the 1-0 lead. Molly, Alesha, and Cat would play solid D to make that lead stand up with Kim in net for 3 saves and the shutout. It was a great start to the day. 1st star went to D, a great job picking the lone goal of the game. Solid passing all day long, great control in the middle of the field. 2nd star goes to Linz, played a great game up front, great passing all game long. 3rd star goes to Britney, very nice game, put solid pressure on the South Buffalo net and had some very nice passing throughout the game. |
