U17 Session I Game Summaries

2007

Alexander 1 Attica 1

Alexander closed out the session with a nice come from behind tie against Attica.  Alexander got scored on early in the 2nd half after a hard fought 0-0 tie in the first half.  Alexander battled and got some decent chances but nothing found the back of the net.  Alexander's best play of the game came on a corner kick late in the game where Autumn found Claire who headed the ball just over the bar and nearly tied the game at 1.  Alexander didn't quit and continued to pour on the pressure late and it eventually paid off.  Maranda threw a ball in to Tessa who quickly dropped a pass to Summer who sent a shot high in on net and beat the keeper to tie the game at one.  Alexander had a great chance late to go up but the Attica keeper kept the ball out of the net.  Hannah also made a highlight reel save stopping a breakaway with a great kick save late in the game and the score tied 1-1.  1st star in the game went to Claire who won everything in the air around her, had a great game on defense, and stepped up into the offense well all game long.  2nd star went to Hannah who had a handful of fantastic saves including the kick save late in the game.  3rd star went to Autumn who had a good solid game on the outside winning the balls in the air and hitting her passes to through some small holes to spring the forwards.  Great job girls, we showed a lot of growth in the first session.

Alden 2 Alexander 1

Alexander struggled a bit against a very good Alden team and came away on the wrong end of a 2-1 score.  Alexander got behind early as Alden put a direct kick in the top corner.  Alexander battled hard but was unable to put a lot of pressure on the Alden net.  Alexander got a good break as Megan charged a ball hard and got her foot on a ball that Alden was clearing and the ball was drilled into the lower left corner to tie the game at 1.  Alden pulled back ahead late on a solid goal that sent Alexander to a 2-1 loss.  It was another strong game all-around for Alexander as they continue to improve as a team this session despite being very young.  Great job to everyone.

Depew 1 Alexander 0

Alexander had a solid showing against a very talented Depew team but was unable to find the back of the net and fell 1-0.  Hannah and the defense did a great job limiting Depew's chances on offense but Alexander struggled a bit with their possession and spent a good amount of time on defense.  Alexander's forwards did find some space up front when we hit our runs and passes together and had a couple decent looks on the net.  Great job to everyone playing against a group that was quite a bit older and much more experienced.

Alexander 1 Lancaster 1

Alexander played on some tired legs as most of the players were playing in their 3rd game of the day and it showed.  Alexander jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Sidney sent a ball forward that Julia ran onto and buried in the right corner to make the score 1-0.  Alexander wore down in the game and got scored on on a counter attack that we couldn't get back on to tie the game at 2.  Alexander had a great all around performance and had a few opportunities to go back ahead but was unable to put them into the back of the net.  Thanks to Abby and Gabby who stuck around and played in their first U17 game to help out the girls.  Both did a great job on the field and impressed many of their teammates with their performance.  1st star went to Sid who had a great game in the back and also played some center mid later in the game and played hard throughout.  2nd star went to Julia who picked up another goal and had some great runs and solid passing.  3rd star went to Autumn who had a nice game in the midfield and had some fantastic passing throughout.  Nice job girls.

AA U19 3 Alexander 1

Alexander got off to a very slow start and fell behind 1-0 early.  Alexander appeared to have tied the game immediately after the first goal but the ref ruled that the ball did not cross the line.  Alexander would give up a goal off a corner kick that was a great play and had another goal go in off the far post.  Alexander drew one back just before halftime when Alyssa sent a ball in high over the keepers head.  Alexander settled down and played much better in the 2nd half but was unable to get the ball into the back of the net.  The defense did a solid job in the 2nd half limiting the offense to 4 shots on goal, 3 of which were saved by Hannah and the other one rang off the post.  1st star in the game went to Jamie who did a great job in the 2nd half on the right side of the field winning a lot of balls in the air and having some solid distribution out of the back.  2nd star went to Alyssa who did a good job in the middle of the field, picked up a goal, and worked hard throughout the game.  3rd star went to Anna who was dangerous up top throughout the game and had some great passing to go along with some great runs with and without the ball.  Solid game girls, lets bounce back next week.

Alexander 4 Eliminators 0

Alexander played a great all around game and picked up a 3-0 win over the Eliminators (the younger Alden team).  Alexander possessed the ball throughout the game and was communicating more than they have been in the past and it helped Alexander's passing game.  Autumn scored on a direct kick midway through the first half to make it 1-0.  Julia struck next for Alexander as she took a goal kick and dribbled quickly up the middle and ripped a shot in near post to make it 2-0.  Alexander would have a nice passing sequence to get their 2nd goal as Rachel passed to Tessa who laid it off to Julia who fired in a left footed shot to make it 3-0.  Alexander's defense made that lead stand up as they limited the shots that Alden took.  When Alden did get a shot Hannah was up to the task as she made 10 saves in net.  Alexander would stretch the lead to 4-0 as Rachel got a ball in the middle of the field, spin, and fire a shot through a crowd and past the goalie to make it 3-0.  That was how the game would end with Alexander playing a very complete game.  1st star in the game went to Savannah who had her 2nd excellent game in a row winning nearly everything in the air and having some great communication once again.  2nd star went to Julia who had a solid game up top, moved the ball well with her passing and had a lot of dangerous runs without the ball.  3rd star went to Rachel who had great passing, solid defense, and good movement off the ball.  Great job girls.

Alexander 1 Attica 0

Alexander would bring it down to the wire, but beat Attica 1-0 in their first win of the season.  Alexander dominated possession of the ball and had lots of great shots on goal that just couldn’t find their way in.  The defense had to mark girls a lot older and more experienced than them but held their ground.  Communication and passing was much better than the first week.  The ball was passed nicely on the ground and lots of great runs were being made.  Hannah had an amazing game saving shots from point blank range and a few high balls that she knocked down and saved.  In the last 90 seconds of the game Anna would find Rachel who had a beautiful goal that would go over the shoulder of the goalie.  It was an exciting game and win for Alexander.  1st star of the game goes to Hannah.  2 words AMAZING SAVES!!!  2nd star goes to Rachel.  Great passing and communication, worked the ball well up the field and had the game winning goal.  3rd star goes to the defense ~ Savannah, Autumn, and Jamie.  Great job marking, clearing the ball and talking with each other!!  Awesome game girls!!

**Honorary star goes to Claire for holding the corn ball.**

Alden 2 Alexander 1

Alexander had a bit of trouble in the first half of the first indoor game of the session but worked hard in the 2nd half and came out with a solid performance, especially in the 2nd half.  Alexander gave up two goals in the 1st half that were well struck low in the corner.  Alexander had some breakdowns in their communication in the 1st half and it lead to some open players all over the field.  In the 2nd half Alexander settled down and moved the ball much more effectively.  Hannah came up with a nice save midway through to keep Alden from putting in a 3rd goal.  Alexander picked up a goal on a great series of passes which started with Julia dropping it back to Amber who crossed the ball to Kat who was crashing on the back post and put it in to make the score 2-1.  Alexander had a couple of great chances to tie the game but the ball didn't find the net.  Julia and Anna had some great movement up top without the ball and Amber and Autumn lead the way in the midfield with some strong passing.  It was a game that didn't start out well, but ended with us playing much better and showing a great deal of improvement.  1st star in the game went to Amber who did a great job in the center of the field moving the ball well, playing solid defense, and getting up and down the field.  2nd star went to Megan who played good simple soccer, moved the ball quickly, and got up and down the field on her side.  3rd star went to Anna who communicated much better in the 2nd half and worked hard off the ball creating chances for herself and for the other offensive players as well.  Good job girls - we will continue to improve as the season goes on.
