U16/17 Game Summaries
Bulldogs U16 2 Tri-Town 2
Alexander came out hoping to pick up a win in their final game of the session. They wouldn't get the win, but they would avoid another loss and turn in a very solid performance in their final game of the session. The game started out with Alexander falling behind 1-0 early. Alexander was passing the ball well and playing very solid defense in the back. Linz would get Alexander on the board and tie the game at 1 midway through the first half. The 2nd half continued much like the first, with Alexander playing solid soccer and moving the ball around the field with some great possession work. After falling behind 2-1, Missy would have a great run up the field and blast in a goal to tie the game at 2. Alexander would continue to put pressure on the net for the rest of the game but couldn't crack the Tri-Town goalie for the winning goal. A great performance was turned in by everyone, many of the players who had been at Sahlen's for 10 hours including the tournament and U14 game. 1st star goes to Missy, just tore the Tri-Town defense apart and had a great goal to tie the game. Great passing and superb attacking runs with the ball. 2nd star goes to D, had solid passing all game long, with several great through balls that nearly resulted in goals. 3rd star goes to Bekah, closed out the session with another great game in the back, kept the defense organized and didn't allow Tri-Town to get many quality looks on net. Not the best session record wise, but I we played well in spite of rarely having our whole team there. Good performances were also turned in by Molly, Kim, and Cat in the back. Nice job ladies.
Amherst 3 Bulldogs U16 1
Alexander ran into a tough Amherst team in the 1st round of the playoffs in the U16 division, and played a strong game despite having 2/3 the team not show up for this one. Alexander fell behind 1-0 early on, but would tie it at 1 on a corner kick by D that found the back of the net. Unfortunately it wasn't enough as Amherst would get two goals in the 2nd half and win the game 3-1. Alexander turned in a good performance, but again had trouble finishing off their opportunities. Missy and Linz did a nice job up front, and both had some great scoring chances that didn't find there way into the net. Julia, Cat, Shari, and D did a very nice job in the mid with some solid passing. Bekah and Kim lead a tough defense in the back that didn't give up much. All three of Amherst goals were rocket shots that blasted there way into the back of the net. Alexander will try to regroup and win their last game of the season next week at 5:15 against Tri-Town. 1st star goes to Bekah, had another very good game in the back, solid 1v1 defending all game long, and some great passing out of the back. 2nd star goes to Kim, all over the field again playing a couple different positions. Superb passing and solid defending all game long. 3rd star goes to Missy, had some great runs up the middle of the field and some nice passing. Nice performances were also turned in by Shari in the mid and Becky in goal. Lets try to win the last game next week!
Amherst 1 Bulldogs U16 0
Alexander won't have enough players able to show up to this game...so since it had no bearing on the standings it will result in a forfeit. Just more time for us to rest up for the playoffs! First playoff game is December 20th at 5:15pm.
Tri-Town 3 Bulldogs U16 1
Alexander played another very solid game, dominating possession time, but again couldn't get shots to get into the back of the net. Alexander played Tri-Town to a 0-0 first half thanks to some great defending by Kim, Bekah, Alesha, Bucky, and Cat. Stacey subbed in goal the first half and made 3 saves to keep Tri-Town off the net. The midfield and forwards played very well for Alexander, moving the ball from side to side and having some great give and go passes. The offense also involved the defenders by dropping the ball back to them on several occasions. The 2nd half didn't go as well as the first half from a score standpoint. Alexander would give up 3 goals in the 2nd half, despite completely outplaying Tri-Town for the entire half. The bad breaks continued for Alexander's offense. Missy had a breakaway, and completely beat the goalie, but the ball hit the post rolled straight across the goal, and D and a defender got to it at the same time and it was cleared away. Kim stepped up at center mid and had some great passing and a couple very nice shots. The best chance on net came off a Linz cross that Kim hit over top of the net with the score 2-1. That 1 came when Linz hit a high shot in over the keepers head with just over 7 minutes left to go in the game. Unfortunately Alexander would give up a goal with just over 1 minute left in the game to make the score 3-1. Despite the score, Alexander outplayed, outpossessed, and outhustled Tri-Town all game long. We just can't seem to get any breaks, or get any consistency with our shooting. It was a very nice game all around, but the score is not in our favor once again. 1st star goes to Kim, had a great game of center mid in the 2nd half, and was solid on defense in the first half. 2nd star goes to Bekah, played a great game in the center of the defense, and had some great accurate passes forward to get the offense started. 3rd star goes to Cat, one of her better games of the indoor session, some great passing, solid defense, and a head ball off a goal kick (wow!). Great performances were also turned in by Britney and D in the mid, and Linz and Missy up top. Tough loss girls, but we can still take these guys in the playoffs.
Ken-Ton 2 Bulldogs U16 0
Alexander played a solid all around game, but just couldn't put the ball into the net and suffered a 3rd straight tough loss. We put together some great passing through the middle of the field, but just couldn't catch a break with any of their shots. Kim, D, Linz, and Jess were doing a great job possessing the ball and getting it up the field. Bekah, Nikki, Kim, and Alesha did a nice job marking and keeping Ken-Ton out of the net most of the game. However it just wasn't our day. Ken-Ton got a garbage goal when Becky came out and made a sliding save, and while lying on the ground the Ken-Ton player kicked the ball away from Becky to another player (two illegal plays in one) and the ball was put in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. That is how the score would stay until late in the 2nd half when Ken-Ton would bury a shot in the corner for the 2-0 lead. Alexander played very well in the 2nd half, as Britney, Linz, and D did a great job moving the ball up the field, but couldn't get a good shot on net despite numerous plays where they had a good look at the net. Alexander had a great play late in the game but Kim's shot found the back of the net about 2 seconds after the buzzer had went off. Becky made 6 solid saves in net to help keep Alexander in the game. It was a solid all around game, but we have to start finishing off a few shots if we plan on winning any of these games. 1st star goes to Kim, played solid all around game at both defense and in the midfield. Had some great passes and a couple nice shots, played very solid defense in the back. 2nd star goes to Britney, played a very nice game, had some nice passes from the center mid, and put some good pressure on the Ken-Ton defense with her dribbling. 3rd star goes to Nikki, Bekah, and Alesha, who played great defense all game long limiting Ken-Ton to only a few good shots on net. Nice games were also turned in by Jess, Cat and Duval in the mid, Becky in net, and Linz and D up top. Tough loss ladies, we easily could have won this game if we finished off a couple shots.
Amherst 2 Bulldogs U16 1
Alexander got off to a very slow start in this game and fell behind 2-0 early on. Alexander came to life after the first 15 minutes of the game, the marking and the passing was much better from there on out. D ripped a ball in the back of the net with just over 5 minutes left in first half to make the score 2-1. After halftime Alexander outplayed Amherst but wasn't able to find the net. Missy, and Britney worked well together up top but were unable to get one in the net. Kim, Bucky, Bekah and Cat played excellent defense in the 2nd half limiting Amherst to just a few shots. D, Duval, Gretchen, Nicki, Sarah and Tina all played well in the mids and up front in the 2nd half, controlling the ball and moving it from side to side as Alexander tried to even the score. Stacey did a nice job in her 2nd game of the day playing in the net as both goalies were hurt/MIA for the day. 1st star goes to Bekah, awesome day in the back, shut most everything down and had some nice clearances out of the back. 2nd star goes to Missy, played well moving the ball from side to side up top and having a couple nice shots. 3rd star goes to Kim, had a great day in the back and had some great pushes forward all the way up the field. Great performances were also turned in by Bucky in the back, D in the mid, and Brit and Gretchen up top. Good game girls, we easily could have won it.
Tri-Town 2 Bulldogs U16 0
Alexander came into their first game of the session looking to play well, despite very limited practice time together as a team. Alexander looked very good early with some great passing sequences through the midfield and in the back. Bekah, Kim, and Nikki played some very nice defense throughout the team, while Johna made some nice saves in the net. Alexander would get some opportunities to put the ball in the net, the best of which came when D hit a great through ball to Gretchen, but the Tri-Town defender got the ball away before a shot was sent at the net. The 2nd half continued much like the first half, with Alexander outplaying Tri-Town, but unable to get anything into the net. D and Johna fired some great shots on net in the 2nd half, but none found their way in. Late in the game Alexander would face a couple very nice shots, both of which found their way in the net. The final score was 2-0, but the game was very evenly played, and I would say that Alexander had the better of the play. Sarah, Tina, and Gretchen all did a very nice job up front attacking the Tri-Town net all game long. The midfield did a solid job of passing and marking throughout the game. Johna made 3 saves in the 1st half, and newly nominated backup goalie Bekah made 4 saves in the 2nd half. 1st star goes to Bekah, who did a great job at defense in the first half, shutting down any attacks that came up the center of the field, and did a very nice job in net the 2nd half. 2nd star goes to Jess, who was all over the field at the outside mids and had some great passing and very nice defense. 3rd star goes to Nikki, who was very impressive at defense with her marking and stepping to the ball. Very solid performances were also turned in by Johna in her several positions, Cat in the mid, and Gretchen up top. Nice game girls, the ball just didn't bounce our way.
