U15 RDYSL 2008 Game Summaries

Shootout Tournament

Alexander had a disappointing day at the shootout tournament going 1-2 and missing the finals.  Autumn had 2 goals in a 4-2 loss to Tri-Town and Summer had a goal in a 1-0 win over Brighton.  Bloomfield won the tournament and beat Alexander 1-0 in their first game of the day.

Alexander 3 Victor 2

Alexander closed out their first summer in RDYSL with a 3-2 win in Victor in the final game of the summer.  The win secured Alexander in 4th place with a 5-4-3 record on the summer in league play.  Alexander got 3 goals from Abby and some above average goaltending from Amber to go along with some solid team defense to pick up the win.  Nice job ladies, strong finish to the season.

Alexander 1 GVBBSC 1

Alexander had a horrid first half but still found themselves tied 1-1 thanks to Autumn scoring on a direct kick from 30 yards out.  Alexander was struggling to win any 50/50 balls and was shying away from contact for most of the game.  In the 2nd half Alexander got off to a slow start as well but managed to finally start playing about 10 minutes in and from there the game was very even as far as chances and shots go.  Alexander nearly went ahead twice in the 2nd half as Sid got her head on a corner that went just wide and Julia had a breakway late that she didn't get a shot off.  Hannah made 10 saves on the day including two nice diving saves to keep GV off the score board.  1st star in the game went to Sid who was an animal in the back and had all of her kicks flying out of the back today (which would have been better if we would have at least challenged a few).  2nd star went to Autumn who had a solid day on the outside of the field and sent some nice direct kicks in from the offensive half of the field.  3rd star went to Ashley who had a better effort on the outside of the field than I have seen for most of the summer, had some solid passes and held the ball well with some nice work defensively mixed in.  Solid result after a very slow first 50 minutes.  One game left in the summer season and less than 3 weeks till the real season starts.

Alexander 3 Canandaigua 0

Despite a terribly slow start Alexander cam away with only their 2nd shutout of the summer in the league facing off against Canandaigua who only had 11 players.  The score remained 0-0 at half but Alexander had several chances.  In the 2nd half Canandaigua wore down and Alexander started moving the ball much better with some nice overlapping runs.  Alexander went up 1-0 as Julia chipped the keeper from just outside the box after Sid had sent the ball forward.  Alexander went up 2-0 as Julia again put a ball in the net this time off the keepers hands and in from the left endline.  Ashley made it 3-0 late as she scored from 10 yards out in the final minutes of the game.  Hannah had 10 saves in net including a couple nice diving stops to pick up her 2nd league shutout of the season.  The girls had a solid team effort all over the field.  1st star went to Julia who attacked all game long and had some great passing as well.  2nd star went to Kylie who played several spots throughout the game and had some great crossing and passing to go along with some nice runs off the ball.  3rd star went to Megan who had a very nice game up top and at outside mid with some nice passing and winning a whole bunch of head balls.  Great job girls - 2 games left (and less than 4 weeks until Var/JV starts).

Bloomfield 2 Alexander 1

In a game I am sure the girls would like to have back Bloomfield came from 1-0 down in the 2nd half to win the game 2-1 thanks to two 2nd half goals.  Alexander scored just before halftime after controlling possession and the game in the first half when Julia found Abby who buried the ball in the left corner to make it 1-0.  The 2nd half saw Alexander come out flat as can be and Bloomfield spent the first 15 minutes in Alexander's half of the field.  About 10 minutes in a Bloomfield player skipped a ball at the top of the box and it hit Amber in the arm about 2 yards in the box and the referee deemed that worthy of a PK that was put in the net to make it 1-1.  The score remained that way for a while but with Alexander on its heels for the majority of the half things didn't look good.  The 2nd goal came when a nameless Alexander defender got her legs tangled with an opponent who didn't have the ball, the Bloomfield player went down and the Alexander defender suddenly decided to feel bad for the first time in her life and apologized profusely as many shocked Alexander players stared for a few seconds.  Bloomfield kept moving the ball wide and sent a cross in far post that got over everyone's head and went in.  Alexander had a great chance later in the game when Julia was sprung by a great crossing pass but the keeper made a save with her knee to keep the score 2-1.  At the final whistle Autumn sent a direct kick in that the keeper bobbled and Claire tried to pound home but the keeper ended up getting control just as Claire struck the ball.  1st star in the game went to Sid who had a strong game in the back and had some great passing out of the back in the 1st half and had a great header on a corner kick in the 1st half as well.  2nd star went to Julia who had a strong game up top with some nice runs and solid passing, had a great assist on Abby's goal.  3rd star went to Lauren who had another solid game at outside mid.  Tough loss girls - three games left to try to put it all together before the fall starts.

Alexander 2 GVBBSC 1

Alexander got off to a great start as Julia sent a ball in the far side in the first 2 minutes of the game to give Alexander an early 1-0 lead.  Alexander continued to play aggressive winning the ball continuously in the 1st half and midway through Julia sent a rolling cross into the box that Morgan punched home to make it 2-0.  The only real blemish in the first half was the fact that Alexander gave up around 10 corner kicks but somehow none found their way into the net.  In the 2nd half GV started putting more and more pressure as they stepped more players into the attack.  Alexander got on their heels and stopped winning the balls in the middle of the field and with about 15 minutes left in the 2nd half a ball was put into Alexander's net to make the score 2-1.  Alexander panicked from here and started giving up corner kicks again and nearly got scored on a couple other times but Hannah made some great saves and the crossbar helped out twice too.  Despite the drop off in play for the final 20 minutes of the game Alexander held on for a much needed 2-1 win over the 2nd place team in the league.  1st star in the game went to Hannah who did a great job in net making 7 saves and getting her hands on at least 5 of the 20 (estimate) corner kicks that Alexander gave up.  She made two excellent saves - one in each half - that kept the ball out of the net.  2nd star went to Julia who did a great job in the 1st half attacking and getting through the ball, picked up a goal and an assist.  3rd star went to Sid who played the full 90 minutes at sweeper and cleared out a lot of dangerous balls.  Nice win girls - lets keep it going.

Fairport 3 Alexander 1

Alexander had a slowish start to the game and fell down 2-0 by the half.  In the 2nd half Alexander came out moving the ball and stepping into the 50/50 balls and it paid off as they played even with division leading Fairport the rest of the way.  Alexander pulled to within 2-1 when Julia finished off a direct kick from Savannah.  Alexander had a handful of chances to tie the game at 2 but could not find the final punch to put the ball into the net.  Fairport would get a 3rd goal late in the game on a nice back post run to make it 3-1.  Despite the result Alexander continues to improve in their overall team shape, communication, and play.  Amber did a solid job in her first look at sweeper as well.  1st star in the game went to Claire who looked strong in the back, stepped up into the offense well.  2nd star went to Julia who had some great runs and picked up a nice goal late in the game, worked hard off the ball for the majority of the game.  3rd star went to Autumn who had some strong crosses on the outside and stepped through the ball well.  God job girls, halfway through the summer and we are pretty close to where we want to be.

Alexander 4 Victor 0

Alexander bounced back from a couple rough games to pick up a big win over Victor and hopefully begin their climb back up the standings.  Alexander picked up an early goal as Julia cleaned up a rebound from Abby in the 1st half.  Alexander played well in the 1st half but the 2nd half was where they really turned it on.  Alexander stepped up the intensity and the physical nature of their play and it resulted in 40 minutes where they dominated possession and picked up 3 goals.  Tessa would score on a penalty kick after Julia was brought down in the box.  Abby would score off a corner that came from Autumn to Sid.  Abby would score her 2nd of the game off an assist from Julia to give Alexander the final 4-0 margin.  Alexander's midfield and defense was great in the 2nd half winning nearly all the head balls.  The passing up front was great throughout the 2nd half as well.  1st star in the game went to Lauren who had a great day on the outside of the field with her passing and defense.  2nd star went to Tessa who had a strong game in the middle of the field with strong passing and solid defense and finished off a PK early in the 2nd half.  3rd star went to Morgan who was great up top, had some great passes and some excellent headers.  Hannah had a solid game in goal picking up the win, shutout, and 5 saves.

Fairport 3 Alexander 1

Although the score line doesn't show it the girls played a much better game than they did on Wednesday.  In the incredibly hot and humid weather Alexander had only 12 players and decided to play with 10 players so that they could have 2 subs and keep everyone a bit less exhausted.  It worked quite well as Alexander out possessed fairport for a good portion of the 1st half.  Julia got free on a breakway and buried it about 7 minutes into the game to make it 1-0 Alexander.  Midway through the 1st half Fairport took advantage of a tired Alexander defense and beat Hannah in the near side to tie the game at 1.  With only a handful of minutes left a player was lose in the middle of the field and fired a shot at the far post which a diving Hannah got her hands on but couldn't get it wide of the far post and Fairport went up 2-1.  The 2nd half saw a much more tired Alexander team continue to battle hard and work the ball around.  Their chances on net were few and far between but Julia once again got free and tried to beat the keeper low in the near side and the keeper got her hand on it and kept it out to keep the score 2-1.  Fairport would get a late goal that went off Hannah and off the post and trickled in to make it 3-1.  Play of the game was in the 1st half when a Fairport player ripped a shot from just outside the 18 through traffic that we on its way in, Hannah got a hand up and tipped it over the bar at the last second.  1st star in the game went to Hannah who was fantastic in net with 8 saves including 3 diving saves.  2nd star went to Julia who ran non-stop up top and picked up a goal which will hopefully get her out of her mini-scoring slump.  3rd star goes to the defense of Sid, Savannah, Claire, and Amber who played in a completely different formation and did a very nice job.  Great game girls - we get the full squad back on Monday and also get another chance at Fairport on Wednesday.

Alexander 2 Canandaigua 2

Alexander came out flat as can be and never really recovered in eeking out a tie against Canandaigua.  Alexander was the beneficiary of an own goal under two minutes into the game as Morgan sent a cross into the box that a defender shot into her own net.  Canandaigua would tie it on a corner kick midway through the first half that wasn't cleared.  Alexander went up 2-1 as Megan finished off a nice cross.  But the lead wouldn't hold up as Alexander would commit a foul near the top of the box and the direct kick was put in the back of the net to finish the game at 2-2.  Alexander had a lackluster effort from the majority of its players and will need to bounce back on Saturday when they will be extremely short sided with players on vacation, graduation, and hurt.

Alexander 1 Bloomfield 1

Alexander played their 2nd league game of the summer against the undefeated and top ranked team from Bloomfield.  Alexander looked much stronger in this game than in their 1st game and came out with a goal early on as Abby beat the keeper high in the top corner to make it 1-0.  Alexander had a couple chances to make it 2-0 but was unable to cash in.  Midway through the 1st half Bloomfield got a wicked sideways bounce thats only possible on an Alexander field to turn a harmless bouncing ball into a goal and tie the score at 1.  From there Alexander had at least 10 good chances to go up 2-1 but was unable to put any of them into the back of the net.  Bloomfield had a couple chances of their own but Hannah came up with the saves.  The defense and midfield looked much stronger than they did in the first game.  1st star in the game went to Summer who had another great game at defense shutting down her mark and finding chances to get up into the attack.  2nd star went to Sid who won the ball out of the air all game long (which is something we haven't been doing) and won a lot of balls off the forwards feet killing attacks.  3rd star went to Abby who picked up another goal and had some great looking passes throughout the game.
