Alexander Finishes Strong Against Batavia posted by Coach Flint on 07-23-2004 10:57

Facing another tough team in their final game of the season, Alexander came up with a great performance against Batavia Thursday night. Alexander played excellent soccer all game long, had several very good scoring chances, but were unable to capitalize on them and would fall in the final game of the summer 2-0.

All of the players on the U14 team should be very proud of their accomplishments this season. They were the youngest team in the division and played everyone tough in the 2nd half of the season. This game shows how much they improved over the season. Good luck to the 7th, 8th, and 9th graders in modified and JV, and hope to see the younger girls out at some of the games this fall.

Great Season Ladies.

Alexander Plays Strong Against Pembroke posted by Coach Flint on 07-21-2004 13:22

Alexander faced off against one of the top teams in the league Tuesday night and came away with a very strong performance. With several players missing from the game, Alexander came out strong in the first half and played Pembroke even for the first 35 minutes with the score remaining at 0-0 for the first half. In the 2nd half Alexander would tire some and Pembroke would sneak in 3 goals to take the 3-0 lead. Alexander would get several scoring opportunities with Alyssa just missing on a couple great chances and Alexander would narrowly miss on several other shots in the 2nd half. The final score was 3-0, a huge improvement over the last tmie Alexander played Pembroke. The girls continue to take huge steps in their soccer abilities as the season winds down. This was another great performance by the youngest team in the league. Leslie had another excellent game in goal to finish out her summer season. Nikki, Sidney, Megan, and Alyssa provided the offensive punch for the team. Everyone contributed in what was an excellent team effort.

Alexander Improves AGainst Leagues Top Team posted by Coach Flint on 07-18-2004 09:41

Alexander came into their rematch against Caledonia hoping to improve on a tough 13-0 loss. With a few players missing for different reasons, Alexander came out strong and played very well against the top team in the league. Alexander played solid defense in the 1st half and fell behind only 3-0 after 35 minutes of play. In the 2nd half Alexander continued its strong play and despite tiring allowed only 4 goals for a final of 7-0. The team was proud of its improvement against Caledonia, and they should be.

Alexander continued to show great improvement in their overall team play. The passing and defense displayed by everyone has been improving each and every game. Everyone who played in the game deserves a star, from goal all the way to the forwards. Great job ladies.

Alexander Falls to Leroy posted by Coach Flint on 07-14-2004 11:31

Alexander played a solid all around game, holding Leroy scoreless for 18 minutes on Tuesday, but it just wasn't enough to pull out the win as they fell 3-1. Alyssa picked up the goal, her first on the season. Strong play was turned in by all 19 players at the game, with Nicki and Sidney doing an excellent job up top, and the defense working hard to keep Leroy away from the net.

Nice job ladies, keep up the hard work.

Alexander Turns in Strong Performance posted by Coach Flint on 07-08-2004 22:58

Alexander faced off against the 2nd place Leroy team Thursday night and showed a great deal hanging with Leroy for much of the game. Alexander started off strong with Sid, Rachel, Nikki, Teresa, Tessa and Amber working to put 7 minutes of pressure on the Leroy defense to start the game. Alexander would hold Leroy scoreless for the first 15 minutes of the game thanks to strong defense from Laura, Ginny, Courtney, and Alyssa. Leroy would get 3 quick goals on excellent shots to go up 3-0. After that Alexander would have strong defensive play from the entire team for the remainder of the half and only give up a single goal.

The 2nd half started off the same way the first half started. Alexander was in Leroy's end for the first 7 minutes and hold Leroy scoreless for 18 minutes thanks to a solid team effort. Casey, Alyssa, Claire, Savannah, and Tessa all did an excellent job in the midfield in the 2nd half stepping the ball well. Rachel would have a couple excellent chances in the 2nd half but the offense came up empty. The defense continued their strong play in the 2nd half, and Megan and Kylie both contributed with some strong offensive play up top. Both Casey and Teresa did a nice job in net subbing for Leslie, who was away at BBall camp.

The marking was very good tonight, as was the defense stepping up the field. Hopefully all my defenders see that even though we pushed up the field, they didn't get any breakaways off of it! The passing was excellent through the middle of the field. All in all it was an excellent game. Very impressive. Some crazy girl did some excellent flip throws also...very nice.

1st star goes to Alyssa, was all over the field, very agressive, good passing. 2nd star goes to Courtney, strong day at outside defender, good marking, strong all around defense. 3rd star goes to Laura, nice game at stopper, stepped to the ball well, won the 50/50s. Excellent games were also turned in by Ginny and Sid in the back, Tessa in the mid, and Megan, Sidney and Rachel up top. The entire team turned in a good performance. Nice job ladies.

Alexander Plays Strong Against Batavia posted by Coach Flint on 07-07-2004 10:07

Turning in one of their most solid performance of the year playing an excellent all around game despite falling 5-1. Alexander stayed spread out all game long, passed well, and played solid defense. Unfortunately Batavia would get some goals on quick counters, and a couple of bad luck goals and win the game. Laura, Ginny, Courtney, Jodie, and Alyssa all did an excellent job on defense. Casey, Amber. Tessa, Alyssa, and Claire all played well in the midfield, marking well and moving the ball forward. Sidney, Rachel, Teresa, Megan, and Kylie all put pressure on the Batavia defense with strong play up top, all having at least one good shot on goal.

Just before halftime Rachel would take a ball and beat the defense down the right side and rip a shot in the far corner for Alexanders only goal of the game. The 2nd half Alyssa hit a shot that appreared to be headed into the top corner, but the Batavia goalie made an excellent save to keep the game 3-1. Rachel and Sidney would both have some excellent chances on net, but the ball just didn't find its way into the net. Casey, Alyssa, and Teresa all had good chances on net in the 2nd half as well. Courtney and Alyssa did a good job marking up Batavia's lone scoring threat, shutting her down for most of the game. Jodie did an excellent job on her side of the field, allowing very little to get down her side of the field.

Casey played well in the center of the field, along with Laura. Both stepped to the ball well and cleared it out of the center and up to the forwards. Leslie made 14 saves in net and made few mistakes all game long.

1st star went to Rachel, played a great game up top and in the center. Moved the ball around well, won the 50/50 balls that came her way, and picked up a goal. 2nd star goes to Jodie, great game at outside defender, didn't allow anything by her all game long, stepped to the ball well, and cleared it up to the forwards. 3rd star goes to Courtney, very nice game at the other outside defender, marked up well, and ran down several breakaways before they could get the shot off. Awesome games were also turned in by Leslie in goal, Alyssa and Casey in the mid, and Megan, Kylie and Teresa up top. Excellent game ladies.

Alexander Plays Well Against Pembroke posted by Coach Flint on 07-02-2004 14:42

Facing off against one of the top teams in the league Alexander played a solid game but came up on the wrong end of a 7-1 score. Sidney picked up a goal that wasn't counted by the ref because he wasn't paying attention, but we know it went in.

Alexander looked very good with their passing and space, bunching very little in this game. But short players with only two subs, Alexander had a tough time staying with the much bigger and more experienced team from Pembroke. Alexander finished off the game with several shots, but with their most experienced forward at practice for a different team they had trouble getting the shots into the net.

Alexander has 6 games remaining on the schedule, 4 of them against very tough teams. Hopefully we can pick up at least one win over the final 6 games. Jodie and Sidney were the stars of the game, with both playing very solid all around games.

Alexander Falls to Albion posted by Coach Flint on 06-30-2004 10:01

Alexander played a solid game and had quite a few good chances on Albions net, but what has plagued them all season was a problem again, getting the ball into the net. Rachel and Sidney did a good job up top but both were unable to get a ball into the back of the net. Leslie had a solid game in net, making 15 saves, but unfortunatley Alexander would fall 4-0.

Alexander played an excellent first half and was behind just 1-0 after a half where they outplayed Albion. Albion would add a goal early in the 2nd half to go up 2-0. Alexander continued to push forward to try to pick up a goal and would surrender two goals in the final 7 minutes.

It was an excellent game for Alexander, even though the score doesn't show it.

1st star of the game goes to Rachel, had a strong game up top with excellent passing, solid all around game. 2nd star goes to Leslie, made some great saves in net, strong game. 3rd star goes to Casey, had a strong game in the center of the field, solid passing and good runs forward. Excellent game ladies.

Alexander Nearly Defeats Pavilion posted by Coach Flint on 06-24-2004 22:24

Alexander squares off against Pavilion Thursday night and was narrowly knocked off by Pavilion 2-1. The 1st half saw an up and down game with Alexander and Pavilion trading opportunities. Unfortunately for Alexander, Pavilion managed to slip two shots into the net for a 2-0 lead at halftime. The 1st half saw Sidney and Amber do a great job up front, while Casey and Alyssa lead the way in the midfield. Jamie and Ginny lead the charge in the back in front of Rachel in the net.

During the 2nd half Rachel moved up front and picked up a goal with just over 12 minutes left in the game. Courtney and Laura worked well in the back playing solid defense and passing the ball forward well. Teresa and Alyssa worked well together up top, while Kayla and Amber did a nice job in the midfield.

Alexander dominated the 2nd half with great passing and strong attacking. It was unfortunate for Alexander that no more than one shot made it into the net, because several other shots nearly found their way into the net.

Courtney had a great shot on a PK in the first half that ran off the right post, missing the goal by mere inches. It was a great all around game from all the Alexander players. The marking was solid and there was much less crowding in the center of the field. The team is improving greatly each and every game.

1st star goes to Courtney, great all around game of defense, nearly made a PK, and did a solid job in the midfield towards the end of the game. 2nd star goes to Rachel, picked up a goal, had a solid game in net during the first half. Great passing and good one on one moves while playing up front. 3rd star goes to Amber, solid game at outside mid and outside forward. Good shots, good agressive play, and nice passing. Great games were also turned in by Ginny and Jamie in the back, Casey and Alyssa in the mids, and Sidney up front. Excellent game ladies, lets keep it up.

Alexander Plays Well, But Comes Up Short posted by Coach Flint on 06-18-2004 08:59

Alexander put together by far their best game of the season, but unfortunately they were unable to get the ball into the net and fell to rival Attica 3-0. Alexander played solid team defense with excellent marking and much better communication all over the field. The offense was lead by Sidney, Rachel, Nikki, and Megan, while Casey, Alyssa, and Amber lead the mids. Rachel had several chances but was unable to pick up a goal on the night. Megan also had a couple chances from right in front of the net but couldn't get one in.

The defense played a solid all around game with Ginny, Jamie, and Courtney leading the way. Leslie made 13 excellent saves in net to keep Alexander in the game.

Alexander played Attica even all game long, outshooting and outworking them, but our shots just didn't make it into the back of the net.

1st star of the game went to Alyssa who was all over the field, showed incredible hustle, and had some great shots on net. 2nd star went to Rachel, had a strong game up front and in the mid, nearly had a couple goals and worked hard all game long. 3rd star went to Ginny and Jamie, who did a solid job in the center of the defense, limiting Atticas shots. Great performances were also turned in by Courtney and Laura in the back, Casey and Amber in the mids, and Sidney up top. Nice job ladies, if we keep it up we will pick up a few more wins before the season is done.

Alexander Suffers Tough Loss to Caledonia posted by Coach Flint on 06-17-2004 10:21

Alexander ran into the top team in the league on Tuesday and although they played a very good game, fell by a score of 13-0. Leslie earned star of the game honors in net making close to 20 saves and showing that she can play excellent in the net. Everyone played well in the heat. Thankfully the team is done with their games against the top 3 teams in the league and will play some smaller and younger teams the next few times out.

Keep it up ladies.

Alexander knocked off by Batavia posted by Coach Flint on 06-10-2004 21:33

The U14 team faced another very tough opponent on Tuesday when they played Batavia at GCC. Alexander fell behind in the first half and was unable to battle back in the 2nd half. Sidney picked up the lone goal for Alexander in the 6-1 loss. Ginny played a strong game of defense in the back while Leslie did an excellent job in goal during the 2nd half.

It sounds like a strong effort against a much bigger and much older team. Nice job ladies.

Alexander Falls to Kendall posted by Coach Flint on 06-05-2004 21:35

Alexander ran into a very tough Kendall team Friday night and despite playing an excellent game came away with a tough 6-0 loss. Alexander came out strong and stuck with Kendall for the entire first half thanks to strong defensive play by Jamie, Leslie, Sidney, Laura, and Casey, as well as strong play in goal by Rachel. Alexander had some strong play from its forwards and midfielders lead by Nikki, Teresa, Amber, Kayla and Claire.

The 2nd half saw Kendall get some goals early which essentially put the game away. Alexander continued its tough defensive play, but an injury to Jamie left Alexander thin in the back and it ended up causing some problems. Alexander played very well in the 2nd half, but gave up some long range goals that put the game out of reach. Rachel and Nikki lead the attack but they were unable to solve the Kendall defense. Megan, Kylnn, and Naomi all contributed offensively in the 2nd half as Alexander did everything they could to get a goal.

Even though the score wasn't all that great the girls should be happy with their performance. Playing even with Kendall for half the game is a great accomplishment considering they are a much older and more experienced team. The marking and talk from the girls was much improved, and there was less bunching. The team continues to show improvement.

1st star of the game went to Rachel, great 1st half in goal making 11 saves and had some excellent passing and movement in the 2nd half. 2nd star went to Leslie, excellent game of defense, good aggressive play and great one on one defending. 3rd star went to Sid, nice game in the back, solid one on one defending. Excellent games were also turned in by Ginny and Laura in the back, Casey and Kayla in the mid, and Nikki and Teresa up top.

Alexander 3 Leroy 1 posted by Coach Flint on 06-02-2004 11:39

The Alexander U14 team opened their season strong by defeating Leroy 3-1 on Tuesday. The 1st half would be a very even matched up and down the field battle that would end in a scoreless 0-0 tie. Midway through the 2nd half Leroy would get a breakaway and put it in the far corner for a 1-0 lead.

Falling behind didn't phase the girls as Linz would help the team battle back by finishing off two goals just over 5 minutes apart to give Alexander the 2-1 lead. Sidney would convert a nice cross into the box with just over 7 minutes left to go in the game to make the final score 3-1.

Sidney and Linz both picked up assists as well as tallying their goals on the night. Leslie made 4 saves in net in the 2nd half to keep Leroy from coming from behind late in the game.

The defense was solid with contributions from Alesha, Jamie, Ginny, and Jodie. The midfield and forwards were very active moving the ball all over the field, with Sidney, Tessa, Laura, Leslie, Casey, and Linz leading the way.

A very impressive first game of the season, next game is Friday at home against Kendall. Excellent job ladies.
