U16 Game Summaries
GYSL 2006
Albion 4 Alexander 0
Alexander entered the 2nd round of the tournament fresh off their first win of the season and played very well showing a lot of improvement in hanging with Albion (especially in the 2nd half) and coming away on the wrong side of a 4-0 loss. Alexander got off to a very show start allowing a goal just over one minute into the game. Alexander stiffened up the defense for the next 15 minutes not allowing a goal or a very good shot to Albion during that time. Albion would get two breakaway goals just a few minutes later to make it 3-0. Alexander continued to work with Jodie and Caryn leading the way in the back with some solid work on the defensive end. Nycole and Marisa worked the ball around up top with Kat and Courtney giving some nice passes forward for them to run onto. In the 2nd half Alexander continued to work hard (despite tiring due to only having one sub) and created a couple scoring chances. Alexander gave up just one unlucky goal on a nice run by the Albion player to make the score 4-0. Caryn and the rest of the defense was tough as nails in the back during the 2nd half clearing nearly everything that came her way out and up the field. The offense worked hard all game long but just couldn't seem to crack Albions tough defense to get a ball in the goal. Alexander's players battled hard throughout the game and showed a lot of improvement over the last game I saw them play. 1st star in the game went to Caryn who took a beating in the back (she dished out a couple wicked hits herself) but stood up to the pressure in the back throughout the game (pink shoes, cheerleading moves and all). 2nd star went to Jodie who was fantastic on the outside of the field stepping to the ball all game and working well to keep her mark on the outside of the field. 3rd star goes to Jamie who was very impressive in the net making 10 stops and having a couple huge saves that prevented certain goals. Congratulations to the girls for picking up their first win in the 1st round of the tournament and for playing a great game. Everyone (Jamie, Sarah, Caryn, Taylor, Jodie, Holley, Kat, Marisa, Courtney, Cortney, Nycole, and Calli) played well in this game and are really coming along as well rounded soccer players. Congrats.
Pembroke 6 Alexander 0
Alexander faced off against a tough Pembroke team and fell by a 6-0 score. 1st star in the game went to Jamie who had a nice run up the right side of the field and had a shot on goal. Played hard and hustled the whole game. 2nd star went to Kat who passed the ball well, which allowed Alexander to move the ball up the field. Hustled and moved to the ball and had some great dribbling throughout the game. 3rd star went to Caryn who was aggressive in goal, came out to get the ball and her punting has improved. She picked up 14 saves in net.
Kendall 6 Alexander 0
After coming to the game a couple hours early due to a miscommunication with the club administrator (sorry about that) Alexander had a really good 1st half giving up only one goal on a corner kick. Alexander was passing the ball, stepping to the ball, and playing aggressively throughout the 1st half. Alexander fell apart in the 2nd half failing to keep up the intensity. Kendall scored goals on nearly any Alexander mistake defensively. 1st star in the game went to Kat who made some nice maneuvers with the ball on her feet, played aggressively, came back and picked up a mark which helped out the defense and the midfield. 2nd star went to Courtney S who is improving at midfield with her passing and understanding the game.
Lyndonville 4 Alexander 0
Alexander kept up with Lyndonville the 1st half with the only goal scored on a PK from a hand ball. The 2nd half Alexander played well for the 1st 20 minutes keeping the ball down in Lyndonville's end, but Alexander only having 10 players wore them out. Lyndonville had the advantage player wise and Alexander struggled to keep up at the end. 3 lost marks lead to 3 2nd half goals on high shots that Caryn couldn't quite reach. Caryn did pick up 12 saves in net helping keep Lyndonville from getting any more goals. 1st star in the game went to Kathy who played aggressive and stepped to the ball. Sometimes it looked like she was the only player after the goal kicks. 2nd star went to Laura who played a great aggressive game at stopper keeping her mark and winning some head balls. 3rd star went to Taylor who played great defensively, stayed with her mark, and beat her mark to the ball almost every time.
Leroy 7 Alexander 1
Alexander picked up a goal in a game where they only had 11 players. Marisa scored on a pass from Nycole in the 2nd half to help Alexander avoid being shutout. The girls continue to improve with their spacing and passing. 1st star went to Marisa who got Alexander on the board with a goal in the 2nd half. 2nd star went to Caryn and Jamie who played aggressively and both ran down their marks and took the ball away. 3rd star went to Nycole who worked hard up top and picked up an assist on Marisa's goal.
Leroy 6 Alexander 0
Leroy was a beatable team and Alexander would have had a chance if there were more than 8 players at the game. Perhaps next time we can give them a better game if the whole team will show up. Alexander passed well and moved the ball down the field a lot this game, but with only 8 players on the field it was like running up hill the entire game. Alexander fell 6-0 but all the players who were there should be proud of their efforts, it was very hot and there was no chance to get a rest. Laura, Caryn, Taylor, Holley, Marisa, Kathy, Kat, and Nycole all deserve 1st star because they were dedicated and showed up to the game on a Sunday and played the whole game as hard as they could. Excellent job to the girls who showed up.
Pembroke 5 Alexander 0
Pembroke came out strong in the beginning scoring 3 goals in the first 12 minutes. But Alexander's defense picked it up and held the scoreless for the next 55 minutes. Alexander managed only one shot on goal as Marisa shot off a cross from Nycole but couldn't get it past the keeper. Even though Alexander lost 5-0 they should be proud of how they played. Alexander was missing several girls that played key positions, but girls stepped up and did a great job filling in for those spots. Alexander did a nice job playing against Pembroke who had several varsity players on the team (while Alexander had 0) We had a 1st timer in goal (Caryn) who did a nice job making 17 saves. Laura did a good job at Sweeper and Holley did a nice job filling in for Sarah who had gotten injured (even though she doesn't like defense). Nycole had a solid game at forward after just moving to the area from Florida. 1st star went to Caryn and Laura. Laura did a good job at sweeper clearing the ball out and playing her angles well throughout the game. Caryn made 17 saves in net and did quite well for her first ever game in net. 2nd star went to Taylor, Holley, and Jodie who played great defense, worked hard, and played aggressively. 3rd star went to Kathy and Andrea who worked very hard in the midfield and played aggressive the whole game on defense.
Albion 8 Alexander 0
Albion was faster and more experienced and showed it throughout the game as Alexander was playing defense the entire game. Alexander just couldn't move the ball down the field and fell by a 8-0 score. Star of the game was Calli who was playing her 1st game of soccer, made some nice passes, was looking up before passing the ball, and didn't just boot it down the field.
Kendall 3 Alexander 2
Kendall came out and took charge of the ball for most of the 1st half but Alexander played great defense and held them scoreless for the first 30 minutes. Kendall had a good shot that went in the corner to make it 1-0. Alexander retaliated 3 minutes later with a goal by Anna on a pass from Kat. Kendall came right back down the field and scored again because the goalie misjudged the ball and it snuck in the net. Alexander was down 2-1 at half. 8 minutes into the 2nd half Rachel passed to Anna who dribbled down and scored to tie the game at 2. Alexander played tough and had more shots on goal in the 2nd half and took charge of the ball most of the 2nd half but was unable to get a goal in. Kendall had a really good goalie and Alexander just couldn't solve her. Kendall would score midway through the 2nd half to pick up the 3-2 win. Frankie picked up 7 saves in goal. 1st star went to Jamie who played aggressively the whole game. Did a good job of running down opponents and taking the ball away. 2nd star went to Frankie who is improving in goal every game. Being more aggressive coming out after the ball and diving on it so they can't get a shot. 3rd star went to Grace and Courtney both hustled throughout the game and made good passes. Played well for their first game of the season.
Alexander 5 Lyndonville 5
Lyndonville started out strong scoring 1st in 5 minutes and kept the ball at our end most of the 1st half. Kat scored 17 minutes in off a pass from Teresa to tie it up. Lyndonville scored 2 times before half to make the score 3-1 at halftime. Alexander came back in the 2nd half as Sarah sent a ball forward to Anna just over a minute in to make it 3-2. Lyndonville came right back to score and make it 4-2. Anna took control of the ball 9 minutes into the half and dribbled down and scored to make it 4-3. About 4 minutes later Alexander was in Lyndonville's end again trying to score. Kat passed the ball back to Marisa who shot from way outside the 18 and it went over the goalie's head to make it 4-4. Lyndonville scored again to make it 5-4. Rachel then sent it forward to Anna who put the ball passed the goalie to tie the game at 5. That was how the game would end. Frankie ended up with 10 saves in goal. 1st star in the game went to Marisa who had the best shot of the game shooting it in from outside the 18 as the center mid over the goalie's head. 2nd star went to Kat who scored the first goal of the game and had an assist. 3rd star goes to the defense of Sarah, Jamie, Caryn, and Rachel who hustled the whole game and did their best to keep up with their marks who were very quick. Sometimes they had two marks to cover because others were losing marks and letting them run through the defense.
Alexander 4 Pavilion 4
It was a hot day and Alexander was short players. We started with 11 players but in the 2nd half a player had to leave and the game was finished with 10 players. Playing with only 9 players in the 2nd half so they could have a sub Alexander lost their lead that they had at the end of the 1st half, but battled back to have a late lead that didn't stand up and ended up tied 4-4. The team played well and had some nice passes and maneuvers to get some great scoring chances. Some of the players had to play in positions they were not used to and did a very nice job. Frankie had a solid 1st game in goal making 12 saves. 1st star in the game went to Anna who tallied all 4 goals for Alexander in a nice effort up top. 2nd star went to Laura and Cortney who did a great job at sweeper and stopper, positions that are not their normal spots. 3rd star went to Niki who played hard the whole game at midfield and defender. Nice job girls, hopefully we can get the rest of your team at the game next time out.
