Alexander @ Attica JV and Varsity Tournaments

Alexander had a solid showing at the Attica JV and Varsity tournaments.  Alexander had the same roster for both tournaments and the girls came away playing some great soccer on the day.  Alexander got off to a very slow start suffering a 1-0 loss to Attica in their first game - this game cost us the playoffs but we bounced back with two great games after this.  In the 2nd game Alexander ripped off a 3-1 win over Warsaw (who ended up finishing 2nd on the day).  Claire scored 2 goals while Tessa scored the other.  Alexander needed a tie in their last game and was playing their 2nd game in a row as they had just played their first varsity game of the day and jumped out to a 1-0 lead over Albion (who won the tournament) but was unable to hold on for the tie and fell 2-1.  Albion went onto beat Warsaw 2-0 in the finals and win the tournament.  Alexander had a nice showing outside of their first game of the day.

In the varsity tournament the girls came away with 3 great performances and just missed the playoffs once again. Alexander opened with a 2-2 tie against Oakfield.  Alexander fell behind 2-0 and looked to be having an awful game to start the varsity tournament but they came back at the end thanks to goals from Ashley and Kat to tie the game at 2.  Alexander's 2nd game ended up with a 1-1 tie against Rush Henrietta (the team that ended up winning the tournament).  Alexander spent most of the game in RH's end of the floor but failed to put more than one goal past the goalie.  RH scored on their only good shot of the game late to tie it 1-1.  Alexander came into the final game of the day needing an upset over top ranked Attica and did a great job in a 2-1 loss.  Alexander fell behind 2-0, got a goal back and battled hard throughout - but the 6th game of the day for all the girls who were still there proved to be a bit too much as they were unable to get the equalizer into the net.

Great job to all the girls who played this weekend - we played some great soccer and scored more goals than we have been scoring lately.  Outdoor starts soon and Varsity 2008 is coming up quicker than you think.
