Alexander had a solid showing in the morning session with
both teams picking up a win and playing quite well in several close
loses. Alexander 1 picked up a win and a tie in 4 games and ended
up in 3rd place at the end of the tournament. Alexander 1 also had
a hard fought 1-1 tie with Gananda in their 2nd game and a great game
with Newark where they were down 3-0 and battled back to get the score
to 3-2 before giving up a late goal to fall 4-2. Alexander 2
picked up a 2-1 win over Gananda in their 2nd game and then had a 2-0
lead on Newark before giving up 3 consecutive goals to fall 3-2.
Alexander 2 also played eventual champion Naples in a tight 1-0 loss in
the last round robin game of the day. Rach lead the way for
Alexander 1 with 3 goals while Hannah, Amber, and Sid all saw time in
goal. Julia lead the way for Alexander 2 with 2 goals while both
Hannah and Sid saw time in net. Alexander had a very good showing in the evening tournament. Both teams played very well - the all 9th grade team didn't manage to pick up a win but moved the ball well and had some great chances on goal - just wasn't able to cash in on any of them. Team 1 had a great showing winning their first game over Alexander 2 and then knocking off the Lancers 1-0 in their 2nd game. Alexander would tie their next two games 1-1 and would get into the final with a rematch against the Lancers. The final wouldn't go as well as the first meeting as Alexander fell to the Lancers. It was a great afternoon of soccer and both teams should be happy with their efforts. |
