Alexander Wins the Title posted by Coach on 12-19-2004 06:49

Alexanders teams faced off in the final and finished off a great season of indoor soccer. With both teams in the finals and one team short players Alexander mixed up the teams and played to have a good time.

The defenders on both teams did a great job shutting down the offenses as neither team could find the net in the first half. Chelsea and Leslie were doing excellent jobs in net as they both made a number of saves from in close to keep the game scoreless. The first goal came midway through the 2nd half as Whit took a corner and Kim headed it home. 5 minutes later Whit would take a through ball and just get it past Leslie for the 2nd goal of the game. Late in the game D got a ball in front of the net and blasted it past Chelsea for the last goal of the game.

The passing was great from both teams and it was a very good overall game. It was also nice to see clean soccer for once without the tackles from behind and blatant trips to stop offensive runs. A great end to a great season.

Alexander will return most of its players for the 2nd session and look to continue their excellent play during the indoor season. A great job was done by all players on both teams throughout the season. Great job ladies.

Excellent performances were turned in by all players. Player of the game went to Chelsea, who made some unbelievable saves in net. Great job ladies.

Alexander 2 South Buffalo 1 posted by Coach on 12-12-2004 13:54

With Alexander17 already in the finals, Alexander16 looked to make it a team affair in the finals. Alexander was faced with a tough task, as they had only one sub, with several players unable to make the game for various reasons. Alexander knew they could win the game if they could get out early and play solid defense. That is not how the game went though.

Alexander would fall victim to a quick start by South Buffalo as they got a great back post goal to go up 1-0 only 45 seconds into the game. For the rest of the game South Buffalo had only 2 more shots the entire game, but Alexander was facing an uphill battle.

Julia, Missy, Teresa, Casey, Kristi, and Duval passed the ball very well and shot the ball time after time, but could not find the net. In the back, Maranda, Alesha, and Court played superb defense and started the offense out with some great passes. Leslie had a slow day of work in net, but made the saves she was supposed to make, including the biggest save of the day late in the game.

Alexander dominated the first half but didn't find the back of the net and was down 1-0. Tired and worn down, Alexander didn't have an ounce of quit in them and knew they needed to get a goal. Alexander hoped to get an early goal before they began to wear back down again. Unfortunately, despite great passing and off the ball movement Alexander still was not able to get the ball forward.

With just over 5 minutes left in the game some players were moved into different positions to try to get some more offense and it paid off. Maranda fed a ball through to Missy who saved it on the endline and dropped it back to Julia. Julia settled, turned, and fired the ball into the back of the net to tie the game at one. Alexander was tired, but didn't quit and had tied the game.

Alexander's defense helped by Duval and Kristi in the 2nd half continued to dominate South Buffalo's offense while Alexanders midfield and forwards moved the ball around the field at will. So this game would end as the first semi-final had ended, in a shootout.

This time Alexander would shoot first. Julia buried her kick, which was followed by South Buffalo putting a ball just out of Leslie's reach. Maranda banged her kick in off the post to make it 2-1, but South Buffalo would answer by putting their kick in off the other post. Alesha buried her kick into the net to put the pressure back on South Buffalo. The shot came in high and was punched over the bar by Leslie to give Alexander the berth into the finals. Alexander won the shootout 3-2 in a great come from behind win.

1st star goes to Julia, all over the field all day, played every minute of the game, excellent passing and great defensive help. 2nd star goes to Alesha, great job in the back shutting down everything and keeping everyone on their marks. 3rd star goes to Missy and Maranda, played strong games throughout the day and took part in the game tieing goal. Great performances were also turned in by Court in the back and Duval and Kristi in the mids. Great job girls.

Alexander 2 Holland 0 posted by Coach on 12-11-2004 07:00

Alexander came into this game wanting a win to keep their undefeated record alive and lock up the 2nd seed in the playoffs for the league. Alexander came out early and got a goal on a corner kick as Linz banked one in off a Holland defender early in the game and Alexander held the lead all game long thanks to a great defensive effort.

Kim, Molly, Ginny, Amanda, and Court did an excellent job in the back holding Holland to only a few shots. The shots that did make it on net were turned away by Casey (who had 5 saves) and Court (who had 3).

Up top, Missy, Alyssa, Linz, and Court did a great job moving the ball up the field, while Lacey, Cat, Kristi, Carissa, and Casey did an excellent job moving the ball around the field with some excellent passing. Alexander had several great opportunities on net, but the Holland keeper played well.

After a 1-0 first half, Alexander looked to put in a 2nd goal and lock the game up. Despite playing well Alexander was unable to get the 2nd goal. The defense remained to play strong in the back which kept Alexander ahead in the game.

With just over 5 minutes left, Linz crossed a ball and Missy put it in to make the score 2-0. Alexander continued their great play and locked up the win with some great defense and passing to keep the ball out of their end.

1st star goes to Missy, great game up top, spectacular runs without the ball, great shots, and some very nice passing. 2nd star goes to Molly, great game in the back, played very well one on one with Hollands forwards. Good passing out of the back. 3rd star goes to Court, very good game in the back. Stepped to the ball well and had some nice pasing out of the back. Nice games were also turned in by Linz up top, Cat and Kristi in the mid, and Kim and Ginny in the back.

Alexander 1 Depew 1 posted by Coach on 12-05-2004 08:44

Alexander was without a couple key players this weekend against Depew, but played quite well and came away with a tie. Depew seemed to think it was the world cup finals, but Alexander played their game and were one deflection away from winning the game.

Alexander came out strong and attacked the Depew net nearly scoring a couple times early on. The offense was moving the ball well thanks to some great passing from Missy, Lacey, Julia, Duval, and Kate. In the back, Maranda, Alesha, and Courtney did a great job in front of Court in net.

Court came up big in net on several occasions, including with 4 seconds left in the half when she made a leaping save to keep the score 0-0.

The 2nd half saw Alexander start off slow, but the defense continued to play strong and Casey made some nice saves in net to keep it at 0-0. Just over 5 minutes into the half, Alexander took the lead as Duval slid a pass to Julia who ripped it in the net to make it 1-0 Alexander. That lead stood up for most of the half, but Depew was awarded a questionable free kick with 8 minutes left in the game that took a deflection in front of the net and went into tie the score.

From there both teams had chances, but none found the net as the game ended in a 1-1 tie, keeping Alexander unbeaten on the season. With a win or tie next week Alexander 16 will finish up in 2nd place and move into the playoffs looking to make the finals.

1st star went to Julia, played a great game in the center of the field offensively and defensively, 2nd star went to Maranda in the back, nice job in the center of the field holding things together in the back. 3rd star went to Alesha, also a great job in the back keeping Depew away from the net. Great games were also turned in by Linz up top, Lacey up top and in the mid, Duval in the mid and in the back, Courtney in the back, and by Court and Casey in the net.

Great job girls.

Alexander 2 Ched 1 posted by Coach on 11-27-2004 17:11

Alexander faced off against Ched looking to go 3-0 just a day after several of the players taking part in the thanksgiving tournament and winning. Things got off to a slow start for Alexander as they moved the ball around the field but were unable to put it into the net. Stacey, Alesha, Lacey, Amanda, and Courtney played well in the back sticking to their marks and limiting the shots that Ched took. Sarah made 2 saves in the half to keep Ched off the score board. Aelxander would pick up a nice first half goal and Linz put the ball into the net off a pass from Missy. The score would remain 1-0 at halftime thanks to a solid defensive performance from Alexander.

The 2nd half saw Alexander continue to dictate play as they moved the ball through the center of the field and fed it through to the forwards. Julia, Duval, Tina, Sarah, Kristi, and the other midfielders worked the ball around well as they fed it forward to Missy, Linz, Court, and the other forwards. Alexander would pick up a great goal as Missy headed in a corner from Linz to give Alexander the 2-0 lead. The defense continued to play strong in the back.

Towards the end of the game Ched's dirty play finally resulted in an injury. Sliding every time they lost the ball whether it was from behind, in the knees, or in the ankles, Ched was by far the dirtiest team we have played at indoor. Stacey was talked from behind after she had passed the ball away and hurt her knee (probably nothing major...feel better). Alexander played a little slow immediately after the injury and was scored on to make it 2-1. Alexander nearly iced it a couple times, but couldn't find the back of the net. Thanks to some great defense the lead stood up and they won the game 2-1. It was a solid all around game for Alexander.

1st star goes to Linz, played a solid game up top picking up a goal and an assist and attacked the ball well down the side of the field. 2nd star goes to Julia, great movement in the center of the field, good passing, and great defensive help toward the end of the game. 3rd star goes to Lacey, excellent all around game in the back and in the midfield, great passing and excellent defense. Great performances were also turned in by Alesha in the back, Duval in the mid, and Missy up top. Great job girls.

Alexander 2 South Buffalo 1 posted by Coach on 11-20-2004 17:33

Alexander looked a bit tired in their game against South Buffalo but still managed to come out on top.

Alexander got an early goal from Julia on a pass from Tina. Alexander's defense worked hard in the back to keep that lead throughout most of the first half. Stacey, Maranda, Alesha and Lacey lead the way in the back while Leslie made the key saves in her first indoor game. The midfield put some good passing together at times to help keep the ball in the South Buffalo's end.

Unfortunately Alexander would lose the lead late in the 1st half as a great shot found the far corner of the net. South Buffalo nearly went ahead but Leslie came up with an acrobatic save to keep the game tied at 1.

In the 2nd half Alexander stepped up their game a little and had the better of the play. Julia, Kristi, Duval, Lacey, Sarah and Casey lead the way in the midfield with some good passing sequences. Lin, Court, Courtney, and Tina made some excellent runs up top and worked the ball around trying to get the go ahead goal. Leslie would send a punt forward to Kristi, who would flip the ball to Linz who beat the defense and ripped the ball in the net to give Alexander the 2-1 lead. From there, Stacey, Maranda, and Alesha lead the way with the rest of the defense as they kept South Buffalo off the score board and preserved the win. Leslie picked up 5 saves in net to get her first indoor win in net.

1st star went to Stacey, solid game in the back, had some good passing and ran anything down that came over the top. 2nd star goes to Leslie, excellent game in net, came up with one huge save that kept the game tied and got an assist on the 2nd goal. 3rd star goes to Julia, helped out well on defense and possessed the ball well in the center of the field. Nice games were also turned in by Alesha in the back, Lacey in the mid, and Lin and Sarah up top. Good job girls.

Alexander opened the indoor season with a 2-0 win over Holland. It was a very well played game as Alexander dominated play and outshot Holland 20 to 6. Kristi picked up a great goal on a cross from Sarah early to put Alexander up 1-0. The defense lead by Stacey and Maranda made the lead stand up in the first half while Lin picked up 3 saves in net.

The 2nd half saw Alexander first many shots on net, but none made their way into the back of the net. The defense continued to play strong with Stacey, Maranda, Lacey, and Courtney leading the way. Lin, Julia, and Court lead the attack up top working some good combination passing through the midfield.

Late in the game Lin took a pass from Kristi and beat the keeper in the near side to ice the game at 2-0. Alexander played some good defense from there on and won the game 2-0. Casey picked up 3 saves in net during the 2nd half to preserve the shutout.

1st star goes to Kristi, had an excellent game while she picked up a goal and an assist. 2nd star goes to Sarah, played a solid game up top and in the midfield, good passing and great field vision. 3rd star goes to Stacey, nice job in the back, ran down anything that came through. Good job girls.
