The U15 and U18 teams combined to take a team to the
Albion tournament and came away missing the playoffs despite playing
quite well. The first star of the tournament was Julia, who played
solid all night long scoring a couple goals, passing the ball very well,
and helping out on defense when the ball was in our end. 2nd star
went to the other captain of the team, Stacey, who played great defense
all night long. She also passed the ball really well from the back
and ran down several breakaways before the shot was sent off. 3rd
star went to Missy and D, who both picked up two goals on the night and
moved the ball around very well up top. A strong tournament was
also turned in by Whit and Linz up top, and Cat and Alesha in the
back. Nice tournament ladies, hopefully we can make the playoffs
of the next one. Here are the game recaps.
The team started out slowly in their first game against Pavilion, falling behind early 1-0 before Missy tied it at one. Alexander fell behind again 2-1, but Missy would help Alexander battle back once again to tie the score at 2. The game would end in a 2-2 tie, with Alexander earning some points in the first game that they hoped would help them get into the playoffs. Missy and D had some great passing up front, while Kim and Cat did an excellent job in the back. Whit and Julia played strong up top as well. The 2nd game was Alexander's best of the tournament. Leroy and Alexander faced off in the 2nd game of the night for both teams. Alexander got on the board early with goals from D and Linz. After being up 2-0 Alexander kept the pressure on Leroy and would pick up 3 goals in the 2nd part of the game (2 from Julia, and another one from D) to finish the game 5-0. Becky made 5 saves in net, including a couple very nice ones to keep the shutout. Stacey and Alesha did a great job in the back not allowing Leroy many shots on net. Up front, Linz, Julia, Whit, and D combined to give Leroy all they could handle. The 3rd game didn't go at all as Alexander had planned. Albion came out fast and banged two goals in off Alexander turnovers in the first 90 seconds of the game. Just a short while later Albion would be given a penalty kick that they would bury to make the score 3-0 in the first 3 minutes of the game. Alexander would pick up the pace and fire shot after shot on the Albion net, but none would beat the keeper and Alexander would fall 3-0 in the final game and miss the playoffs but just a couple points. Stacey and Cat both had strong games in the back, while Julia and Linz lead the team up front with some nice passing and good shooting. It was a disappointing end to a good day of soccer. |
