U16 Session I Game Summaries
2005
Holland 2 Alexander 0
Alexander started off the session with 3 straight wins to go to 3-0. They finished the session losing 4 of 5 games to finish up the session 4-4 and in 2nd place after a loss to Holland in the finals. Alexander's record in the finals at Sahlen's dropped to 1-7 all time. Alexander continued to have trouble getting the ball into the net as Holland's goalie came up with some fantastic saves. Alexander passed well, but still not up to their capabilities. Holland scored on two excellent shots that neither goalie had a chance at. 1st star in the game went to Stacey, played strong in the back and in the midfield. 2nd star went to Alesha, strong game in the back, stepped up into the play well. 3rd star went to Julia, solid game in the middle. Tough way to finish up.
Alexander 2 Depew 0
Alexander came into their semi-final game on one of their worst stretches in a long time during and indoor season. Alexander came out in this game passing the ball and it made all the difference in the world as Depew had only 2 scoring chances, both that went over the top of the net. By not playing pinball all game long Alexander was able to possess the ball, score 2 goals, and have several other scoring chances that just missed. Alexander got solid play in the back from Stacey, Alesha, Emily, Maranda, and Sidney as they posted the shutout with Chelsey and Leslie picking up 6 combined saves in net. Alexander's 1st goal came 5 minutes into the 2nd half with a great run with the ball by Alyssa as she went through the defense and in on net ripping a shot that the keeper just got an arm on. The ball kept going towards the net and Julia crashed the net and poked the ball in to put Alexander up 1-0. Alexander would put the game away with 13 minutes left as Chelsey headed a ball to Alesha who took a dribble and blasted a ball into the net to put Alexander up 2-0. From there Alexander played solid defense and closed out the win. 1st star in the game went to Alyssa, fantastic work with the ball, solid passing, and great runs. 2nd star went to Lacey, played great at midfield and forward, solid passing good wins of 50/50 balls, great job throughout the game. 3rd star went to Stacey, solid game in the back, passed well, won her head balls, and had great 1 on 1 wins. Excellent game were turned in by Emily in the back, Julia and Rachel in the midfield, and Court up top.
South Buffalo 2 Alexander 1
Alexander came up with another lackluster game and lost their 3rd straight game Friday night dropping them out of 1st place going into the playoffs. Alexander didn't have a good deal of passing and it would cost them in the end. Alexander went behind 1-0 late in the 1st half after a South Buffalo forward dribbled through the Alexander defense and got one past Chelsey. Alexander had few chances in the 1st half, but those that they did were put wide or over top of the net. In the 2nd half Alexander played with a bit more speed, but not much passing or possession. Alexander would tie the game after the goalie misplayed a long shot by Julia and Alyssa crashed on the shot and poked it in to tie the game at 1. The tie wouldn't last as South Buffalo would put home the winning goal with 5 minutes left in the game to go ahead 2-1. Alexander's best chance to tie the game was a long direct kick by Stacey that went just over the bar. Alexander's record dropped to 3-3 on the session while South Buffalo improved to 3-1-2. 1st star in the game went to Alesha, had a fantastic game in the back. 2nd star went to Court who had a very nice game up top with her dribbling and passing. 3rd star went to Alyssa, was all over the field and put a goal in to give Alexander a chance to tie the game.
Depew 1 Alexander 0
Alexander came out without their passing game and it hurt them against a strong Depew team. Alexander's offense didn't help out their defense by getting shut out for the first time this session. Alexander had several good chances on net but failed to finish any of them off throughout the game. Depew's goal was scored on a great 20 yard shot that went in the high left corner of the net after an Alexander clearance came right to a Depew player in the center of the field who was unmarked. Alexander had some great runs forward from Court, Alyssa, and Laura but couldn't finish off any shots. Stacey, Sid, Alesha, and Court did a solid job in the back winning most of the head balls and having some nice runs and passes out of the back. 1st star in the game went to Alesha, stepped up into the play with several runs, had some good shots and won some key head balls. 2nd star went to Alyssa, had some great passing, solid runs, and good dribbling throughout the game. 3rd star went to Court, had some great head balls, good passing, and excellent runs up top. Nice games were turned in by Laura up top, Lacey in the midfield, and Sid and Court in the back. We still have a chance to pick up the 1st seed for the playoffs with a win next Friday.
Holland 3 Alexander 1
Alexander faced off against Holland Saturday and had to call up a few players from the U15 team to help out in this one. Megan, Amber, Claire, and Julia Pettys all filled in during the 1st half and the first part of the 2nd half and did a nice job. Alexander fell behind early on a nice shot by Holland. Holland would pick up a 2nd goal shortly after a great save by Chelsey rebounded out to a forward who tucked it in the corner. Holland would pick up a 3rd goal on a play in which the forward was clearly offsides. Despite being down 3-0 at halftime Alexander never quit in the 2nd half. With a few late arrivals from the basketball game Alexander managed to get a goal back in the 2nd half as Court headed in a Stacey corner kick to make it 3-1. Sidney, Lacey, Kaylynn, Stacey, and Leslie all did a nice job in the back in the 1st and 2nd half limiting Holland's shots. Alyssa, Court, Laura, Rachel, Leslie, Megan, and Amber all did a good job in the midfield throughout the game. Up top, Megan, Amber, Julia, Claire, Alyssa, Court, and Lacey all chipped in with some solid runs and nice shooting. Despite the loss Alexander played very well, all players involved did a very good job working together and pushing hard throughout the game. Chelsey picked up 10 saves in net and had a couple unlucky goals find their way into the net or the score could have been very different. 1st star in the game went to Court, great job at midfield and forward, had a great goal off the corner kick, ran hard and worked hard throughout the game. 2nd star went to Lacey, did a great job at defense in the 1st half and at forward in the 2nd half. 3rd star went to Sidney, did a very nice job in her first action at center defense on the U17 team. Had some great wins in the center of the field. Great games were turned in by everyone else that played in the game. Again, thanks to the younger girls who helped us out by playing in the game.
Alexander 1 Holland 0
Alexander faced off against Holland in their 2nd game of the day. Alexander's passing was not working throughout the game and it showed as the game would come down to the final seconds to determine a winner. Throughout the game Alexander failed to put any passes together having most of the balls sent down the field and out of bounds to no one in particular. Alexander got some strong play in the center of the field from Julia, Ashley, and Kristi but was unable to put any balls into the net for the first 49 minutes of the game. With under a minute left Stacey took a ball in the center of the field, beat 2 players and slid a pass to the left side to Julia. Julia took a dribble and fired a left footed shot over the keeper's head into the left side of the net to put Alexander up 1-0. From there Alexander ran out the clock and moved to 3-0 on the session with the 1-0 win. Chelsey and Lelsie combined on the shutout and win again in net doing a very nice job in the goal. 1st star in the game went to Julia, played well throughout the game and finished off the game winning goal. 2nd star went to Ashley, great game in the midfield, solid passing, great dribbling, and had some nice shots. 3rd star went to Stacey, solid game in the back, stepped up into the play well and had some great passing. Nice games were turned in by Buck and Alesha in the back, Kristi and Kayla in the midfield, and Kaylynn and Alyssa up top. Nice job girls.
Alexander 4 South Buffalo 0
Alexander played a solid all around game against South Buffalo and picked up a solid 4-0 win. Alexander got on the board early as Stacey took a corner, Alesha headed it onto the net and the goalie saved it, but the rebound came out to Court H and she buried it into the net for the 1-0 lead. Alexander would go up 2-0 when Ashley would hit Chelsey on a nice cross and Chelsey would bury it left footed on a great shot into the right side of the net. Alexander got strong play all over the field throughout the first half. In the 2nd half Kaylynn would take a ball and put it in the left side of the net to make the score 3-0 midway through the 2nd half. Ashley would put in Alexander's 4th goal off a cross from Kaylynn to make the final score 4-0. Chelsey and Leslie combined on the shutout in net. Alexander controlled the play thanks to excellent play from all their midfielders throughout the game. 1st star went to Stacey who was solid in the back, had some great corners and direct kicks, and some nice passing. 2nd star went to Ashley who was great in the midfield, picked up a goal and an assist and had great passing all game long. 3rd star went to Chelsey who picked up a goal and had some nice stops in net. Great games were turned in by Buck and Alesha in the back, Julia and Kayla in the midfield, and Court and Kaylynn up top. Nice job girls.
Alexander 2 Depew 0
Alexander started off the indoor season with a solid 2-0 win over Depew. Alexander got off to a fast start in the game with great passing from their midfield of Julia, Kristi, Lacey, and Maranda with Alyssa making some great runs up top. The defense was fantastic throughout the game with Stacey, Sid, Buck, Alesha, and Emmy doing a great job in the back. Chelsey and Leslie both did a solid job in net combining for the shutout and win. Alexander's first goal was scored by Stacey on a direct kick. 7 minutes later Alexander went up 2-0 when Stacey took a direct kick and Rachel tucked the rebound under the keeper to make the score 2-0. From their the midfield of Julia, Kristi, Kayla, Rachel, Maranda, and Leslie took over dominating the 50/50 balls and feeding the ball forward to Court, Alyssa, Laura, and Lacey. Alexander had several chances in the 2nd half, none closer than Court ringing one off the cross bar and Laura putting the rebound just wide of the net. Alexander's defense did a great job in the 2nd half and Chelsey made 4 saves and came out of the box to play a couple balls out of the back and preserve the shutout. 1st star went to Bucky, did an excellent job in the back winning a ton of balls in the air and having solid distribution. 2nd star went to Stacey, goal and an assist, great kicks all game long, solid defense. 3rd star went to Rachel, great game on the outside, picked up a goal and won a ton of balls in the air. Great games were also turned in by Julia and Maranda in the midfield and Court, Lacey, Laura, and Alyssa up top. Nice win girls.
