Alexander Soccer Club - General Information
How We Started
The Alexander Soccer Club was started in the Fall of 2002 by then JV Soccer Coach Chad Flint to give players from Alexander High School the opportunity to play indoor and outdoor soccer year round as there was little opportunity for the players in the area to grow their skills outside of the school season up to this point. The program has grown a great deal since then. The first year the club played at Sahlen's Sports Park indoors during the winter, in a handful of local indoor tournaments, and participated in the Genesee Youth Soccer League.
Now the club still plays at Sahlen's during the winter. The club travels to indoor tournaments all over Section Five during the winter and spring, hosts indoor tournaments of their own, participates in the RDYSL travel league in the summer as well as hosting a shootout 6v6 tournament at the end of the summer.
The school teams have benefited a great deal winning 3 division titles in the 7 years of club existence, 2 league titles, and a sectional title in 2004. The club had 10 alumni on a college roster this past fall and has had 14 alumni go on to play in college during the existence of the club. This summer through our affiliation with the new Central Western United Soccer Club we will be able to offer access to a men's and women's amateur team as well.
Our Goal
Our goal is to simply provide an opportunity for players in Alexander and any surrounding area who wish to play soccer outside of the school season. While the club strives to improve players skills for their school teams it is not required that players involved in the Alexander school program participate in any of the club activities. The clubs activities are all voluntary and simply mean to be fun and help improve their skills. Soccer is a game that can be played year round and enjoyed and that is what we aim to do.
Our Coaching Staff
Chad Flint
Chad has been with the club since its inception and serves as the president, registrar, treasurer, basically a jack of all trades. Chad started out coaching in Warsaw at the age of 16 coaching a 10 and under co-ed team. He has coached JV boys at Warsaw, JV Girls at Alexander and is currently the Varsity coach at Alexander. Lisa Atkinson
Lisa has been with the club since the summer of 2004 and has coached at several different levels. Lisa acts as the Vice President for the club and handles much of the paperwork and secretary duties of the club along with some of the treasure duties. Lisa is a Nationally certified Level 1 soccer coach through the United States Soccer Federation and has coached the Alexander Jr. High Soccer team for 2 years in the past. She has been an assistant varsity coach for the past 3 years and continues to hold that position. She coaches year round in the Alexander Soccer Club at all levels including the youth instructional leagues. She is often called the team "mom."
Greg Shilvock
Greg has been with the club for a little over a year. He coached the Alexander modified team during the fall 2007 season. She co-coached the U12 girls team during the summer of 2007 in the GYSL and has worked with youth instructional leagues during the summers since graduating She was a key member of the 2004 league and sectional championship team. She was a 3 year starter on the varsity team and is tied for 3rd on the Alexander all time goal scoring list with 35. She held most of the club's goal scoring records until they were broken recently and she currently sits 2nd. She is arguably the most successful Alexander High School Soccer Alumni (and Alexander Soccer Club Alumni) as she has been a 4 year starter in college (2 years at GCC where she set several scoring records and 2 years at Eastern Nazarene in Boston where she was a captain her senior year). Danielle has also played basketball in college.
Alyssa Hinkson
Alyssa began coaching with the club in the summer of 2009 after an unfortunate injury cut her playing career short. Alyssa was a 3 year member of the varsity team in 2005, 2006, and 2007 and was a captain her senior year in 2007 when Alexander was the #1 seed in class CC sectionals. Alyssa is in the top 20 in games played for the club and was always known for her amazing work ethic both on and off the field and her ability to play entire games without even being winded. She was unfortunately injured her freshman year at GCC and then suffered a 2nd injury during the summer of 2009 while a member of the CW United Women's team. She will be a valuable addition to the club and school coaching staff.
